Hi there !

by Namrata Nautiyal

My name is Namrata Sahu and I am the miss-going-to-be-mrs. in a short span of 6 2 months. Let me start by saying that I hunt for all things good that come cheap.

HiAs this mega change in my life (read wedding) is fast approaching head on, I have a zillion things that I am thinking about right now from finding that perfect outfit to choosing the right wedding vendors all in my tiny ‘realistic’ budget. Not to forget impressing my mother-in-law in the cooking department! It’s war time and the clock is fast ticking to find just the right guys to help me with my dream wedding.

Isn’t it mind-boggling from the time the big ‘M’ word comes in our lives, how quickly normalcy goes flying out of the window… I found my love when I took a chance at life, and you would think that would be the end to all the major mid 20s life problems, but it’s not. From mummy saying, “start coming to the kitchen” to grandmother saying, “don’t call your to-be fiancé by his name” it’s all just the start to the craziness that is our Indian Wedding.

The reason I decided to try my hand at blogging is because as a bride-to-be I wanted to create a one stop shop for finding out about all the fun inexpensive ways to have a fabulous wedding, be it from choosing the right kind of photographer to DIY ideas to have on your wedding.

I hope my blog brings a smile to your face 🙂

Ohh on a separate note, I used to be a corporate robot working from 9 to 6…7…8…9……five days a week before I decided that, it’s not for me. So now I do freelancing full-time from mainly doing Qualitative Research – Group Discussions etc for all kinds of fancy awesome firms to occasionally teaching & volunteering few days a week.

Also, I am not much of a social person, my idea of having a good time is either food or shopping, mostly both. So whenever I do go out my two absolute favorites are Maxi Dresses & Sarees (that is if I have the occasion). For the longest time…years in fact, I have waited for the Indian Market to embrace Maxi Dresses, coz come on, not all of us are made for that skin tight jeans, right!

Hi Namrata,
I recently got engaged and wanted to come down to Mumbai for my wedding shopping which is next year (from Toronto, Canada). Just like you, I don’t want to go crazy on the spending and need to stick with my budget. I found your blog very informative, especially with regards to lehenga shopping and plan on coming to Mumbai in November this year.

I am planning on visiting some of the stores you mentioned in your blog. So I was wondering if you are aware of any sales around that time so I could get a good bargain on the outfits.

Keep doing what you’re doing!! It’s useful for so many of us girls out here who visit India for wedding shopping 🙂

Frugal2Fab September 15, 2015 - 12:29 pm

Hey Priya,
Congratulations on your wedding 🙂 I am not too sure if there are any sales during November, give me some time I will shoot you an email as and when I come to know about any deals and sales possible. As november, december are like the peak wedding seasons, normally you will find all the fresh stock, new designs and a good set of collection in every store…so in a way, it might actually work out better without the sale.

I hunted quite a bit during the sale season, and honestly you know the problem with sale is most of the lehengas will not have the finishing done properly, there will be some damaged outfits as well – trivial things like sequins falling apart, or not a good fitting shaped skirt etc etc….but in a way damaged nonetheless. Since, a lehenga no matter of what budget is still an expensive buy, you should pick up something which is absolutely perfect…and you won’t find that in the sale time for sure. I saw lots of pretty pieces during the sale season, but somewhere something was always amiss.

Shoot me an email at frugal2fab@gmail.com with your budget and the kind of Lehenga that you have in mind…and I will tell you exactly which stores to target first…rather than aimlessly visiting 100s of stores…it gets very very confusing.

I am so glad you are enjoying the posts. You just made my day by saying that. Will try and keep sharing more information regarding Wedding Lehengas which will hopefully be useful ^_^

Well written. Keep up the good work.

Sheela January 26, 2017 - 10:44 am

Hi Namrata, do you know which store carries Swati-Manish’s lehengas in U.S

Frugal2Fab January 26, 2017 - 7:12 pm

Hi Sheela,
I just checked online. They have a store in Mumbai, but nothing is mentioned about stores in US. You can call and check with them if they exhibit or deliver in the US. Sharing the link here. Hope this helps 🙂
