Oh wow was my reaction as I boringly browsed through fashion week outfits. Its a disease you know, no matter what fashion week, whether its summer, winter, monsoon, casual be it any category…my eyes pop open only for the wedding outfits. Anju Modi has been a favourite of mine from a long long time, since the time I started blogging…and this around Anju Modi aifwaw17 collection was a stunner show.
Her collection titled “Neelambar”meaning neela-ambar depicted the changing colours of the evening sky, and for once I understood why this is autumn winter fashion. The colour palette in the fashion show consisted of ivory whites to beige, yellows and a whole lot of dark midnight blues.
Anja Modi’s style in one word for me is opulent. You might remember her outfits from the Bajirao Mastani days. She was the designer behind Deepika’s looks in the movie. This time though, her outfits styles were more on the sober elegant side with little hints of royal luxury.
“There are challenges to design that is inspired by or rooted in history. Getting access to multiple antique pieces of textiles was definitely one of the bigger issues we faced, recreating the essence of that time and of the characters (especially Mastani) with very little literature to back it up was another hurdle.”
“But then, these are the moments we take some creative liberties and keep the overall idea rooted to the time but build the character and wardrobe based on scripts and situations,” – Anju Modi (Source – News18)
The outfit line up consisted of lehengas with floral motifs, intricate soft gold embroideries on evening gowns, a whole lot of anarkalis and capes. Sakshi Tanwar walked as showstopper, and I was pleasantly surprised seeing a fresh face on the ramp. She walked so effortlessly and was a delight to see on the ramp and looked beautiful in an ivory lehenga with geometric stripes on it.
“I connected with her from hearts. The kind of mature thinking she has is amazing. We always praise and admire her. We value the inner self of the person and Sakshi is great.” – Anju Modi (Source – India.com)
Anju Modi theme for this years fashion show at AIFWAW17 was an architecture-inspired collection showcased three themes of timeless, vintage, handcraft and organic outfits.
