I was writing a post today morning about all things DIY that can be done in a wedding decor. I am a sucker for DIY these days what with everyone on youtube teaching us how to practically do everything on our own. Its super fun and saves you a ton of money.
I remember when I was sitting negotiating decor ideas and budget with my decorator, he really didn’t leave much options for the fun stuff. Anything remotely exciting would cost a bomb. Like seriously, I want more lights – add extra zero to the budget, I want more flowers – add two zeros at the end of the quotation. I was going bonkers.
Now that my wedding is a thing of the past, I can concentrate on helping all you budget savvy brides to have a fabulous wedding in a shoe string budget.
I have been obsessing about the yarn orbs for sometime now. In fact I am making some at home as I write, and while doing it I realized that they look so cute…so why not include it in the wedding decor itself? So, here’s 5 ways in which you can use the amazing yarn orbs to make your wedding shine just that tad bit more.
What is a Yarn Orb?
Its these airy decorative orbs that are made from stiffened yarn. You can pretty much make it in any sizes & colors and these can be hung in the house, outside…pretty much wherever you like…
How to make a Yarn Orb?
There are a LOT of youtube videos out there showing how to make one…but I found this the most helpful. Do check it out.
Ok, so with that sorted, lets take a look at all the ways of incorporating the yarn orbs into your wedding decor.
#1 As a colorful prop for a summer day wedding – String decor
Paper lanterns cost quite a bit…even 100 bucks is overall expensive if you gotto buy like 50 of them. And 100 is for the smaller ones ! Instead, just buy lots of yarn, and do a simple DIY…use it in one of the sections of your wedding day outdoor lawn or indoors in one corner, and you will have tons of people complimenting you on your creativity.
#2 With fairy lights
I am a sucker for fairy lights. They look so dreamy so romantic, and if you have any of your wedding functions lined up for the evening, then this is going to just change everything. Get help from your besties and use one afternoon to make as many of these yarn orbs as you can in multiple sizes.
The best thing about using a yarn orb is that it has gaps all around, so you can put as much volume of fairy lights as you like. Give them to your decorator on the day of the wedding, and let him figure out the electricity connections etc.
#3 As a chair decor
Now, if you made a few and realized its just too much work, don’t worry…no need to think that its all gone for waste. You can simply use it constructively as a chair decor with artificial flowers and a nice satin sash. It will look super classy and you will have yourself a diy wedding decor.
#4 As center piece on the table
Another option is to simply use it with candles or flowers as your centerpiece. Its not like you will have 50-100 round tables, that would be like a mega huge wedding…but in my experience…you might have to make like 20-30 at max and you will be good to go. Aromatic candles come in big combo packs and they don’t cost all that much…so you can pretty much use those and your guests will love it !
#5 Use as a decorative lantern
Fairy lights inside the orb too much for you? They just put aromatic candles in each of them and use it in places where normal electricity connectivity isn’t possible. You can also simply keep it in a decorative manner on the floor or on one big table, and it will be like a showy piece in itself.
