Mehendi Favor Ideas

Today’s post is in collaboration with the amazing Priyanka Presswala, who is a mum to an adorable toddler, a newbie blogger at lifeasamomy and a very dear close friend. She got married in all Gujarati fanciness in the year 2012 with a destination wedding at Vapi and for the past few months has been a constant pillar and support in all my wedding planning.

Off late, I have been thinking about what all to do in my mehendi ceremony, and a big question mark was about mehendi favors. There are so many options out there but somewhere I felt most of them were either super common, or done to death or not too exciting kinds.

That’s when I reached out to Priyanka to help me out in deciding what to gift to the guests during the ceremony. We sat down one afternoon and jotted down all the possibilities on whatsapp and we had so much fun planning this out. Now I won’t claim that all 30 are unique mehendi favor ideas, but you will definitely find some unusual options in this list.

Mehendi Favor Ideas

Hope you enjoy it 🙂

P.S. Anuja, this post is specially for you 🙂

Where to buy it from:

Sutar Chawl – It is one of the lanes connecting Zaveri Bazaar and Abdul Rehman Street. The entire street is filled with gift decoration items. Usually you can buy these by the dozen, which works out cheaper.

#21 KAMARBANDH

Mehendi favor ideas

I first came across kamarbandh when I was walking through the lanes of Bhuleshwar. You will find everything from pearls to kundan, mirror work, antique gold kamarbandh’s in shops as well as outside. This is something that not everyone buys on a usual day and hence makes for the perfect unusual gift option for your guests.

#22 LIPSTICKS/ LIPGLOSS/ LIP CREAMS

Mehendi favor ideas

I recently saw this video by Debasree (here) and she spoke about the Miss. Claire Lip Creams which work as good as a lipstick and I guess who doesn’t like another shade of lipstick right? So go ahead and gift these to all the women attending your mehendi ceremony.

Where to buy it from:

Any Beauty Centre, the Lip Creams cost just Rs. 110

#23 ANKLETS

Mehendi favor ideas

The fun part about anklets (paayals) is that you can do Indian as well as trendy ones like the one shown above. Again super high on usability during the ceremony, you can get your guests to wear and show off these gorgeous trinkets.

Where to buy it from:

Colaba Causeway, Mangaldas lane in Crawford Market or online sites like Stylefiesta. Colaba causeway and crawford will definitely cost you cheaper. There is an imitation shop in mangaldas lane which keeps good anklets. You could probably get a trendy anklet starting Rs.100 upwards.

You could also connect with Priyanka if you are looking for any specific kind of anklets. She sells these as well.

#24 SAREE BELT HOOK KEY

Mehendi Favor Ideas

While brides might be getting the silver saree belt hook key like in the bengali style, a good option is to surprise your guests with these not too expensive kundan pearl artificial chaabi ka gucha. They are festive, traditional and an unusual option to go for as your mehendi favor.

Where to buy it from:

Bhuleshwar. I have seen the exact same kind in the picture at Bhuleshwar. You will find these in the road side stalls as well as all the local stores on the lane. You can get these for Rs. 150-200

#25 LATKANS

Mehendi Favor Ideas

I know I know…what am I writing, right? But why not? Everyone uses these in their sarees and dupattas, they are Indian, festive and look amazing. So why not gift your guests these as mehendi favors. You could go for mirror work, ghunghroo ones, gold long latkans or even keep the option of colorful ones for guests to choose and pick on their own.

Where to buy it from:

Bhuleshwar ONLY. Do not buy it from anywhere else. You will find stunning pieces at dirt cheap rates. Anything outside costs twice the amount that it costs in Bhuleshwar. A fancy big latkan will cost no more than Rs.100-200 (I am talking Lehenga ke side vala latkan) Saree latkans in standard sizes cost around Rs.40-60

#26 BRACELET RING

Mehendi favor ideas

How cute is this? Nowadays everyone loves wearing the bracelet ring styled ornaments and this goes perfectly with any outfit be it Indian or western. Try to pick gold or pearl or silver shade ones which are standard options.

Where to buy it from:

Crawford Market local shops have good ones starting at Rs.50. You could also check out Colaba Causeway. If you want fancier ones, I love StyleFiesta’s collection online…you will find the quirkiest trinkets there…but they are definitely on the pricey side. Alternatively, you can also buy bracelet rings from Priyanka…she sells imported ones starting at Rs.300

#27 WALLETS / POUCHES

Mehendi Favor Ideas

Wallets are a great gift idea as it ranks high on usage. Pick ones which are colorful and funky. You could also go for those handmade leather wallets (bengali style ones), but I have no clue where you get them here 🙁

Where to buy it from:

You will find good funky ones at Linking Road and Hill Road, Bandra starting Rs.100.

#28 BANGLE (CLOTH) BOX / SAREE BAGS & COVERS

Cloth because they cost much lesser than the solid boxes. Also, its a nice useful accessory to have for anyone. Its the perfect budget mehendi favor to give to your guests.

Where to buy it from:

Crawford Market junction stall. You can get these for Rs.50

#29 MAANG-TEEKA

Mehendi Favor Ideas

Go for a small intricate designed maang teeka which looks delicate yet dressed up when worn with Indian outfits. However, you don’t have to buy those big ones where your guests will give competition to your look. So choose wisely.

Where to buy it from:

Bhuleshwar. Get into any of the shops and you will find these for as low as Rs.50 a piece. The one that I have worn on my engagement was somewhere around Rs.75-100.

#30 STATEMENT RING

Mehendi Favor Ideas

This is my personal favorite mehendi favor gifting option. Everyone loves a statement ring and you can’t have enough of these. They go perfect for any occasions be it with saree or anarkali and if you are the fashion forward kinds, even with some western outfits. You could put it in a translucent pouch and gift it to your guests. They are sure to love this.

Where to buy it from:

Colaba Causeway. Depending on the look, these rings cost can vary from Rs.50 to Rs.200

Some of these options may seem a little bleh.. to some of you, but the idea is to mix it up. Its not as if you just have to give a toe ring and done, or a maang teeka which might seem a little off, but if you combine these with something then it can become like a good mehendi favor. Depending upon your budget and your liking, choose whatever you wish to go ahead with.

Nobody has written these are the ONLY mehendi favor gift ideas that you can give, there are no rules…so go for something different…its all good.

Given that nowadays everyone wants to do something different, both me and Priyanka thought lets just put it all out there 🙂 I hope you guys like this post. Do let me know… 🙂 For more inspirations, you can also visit my Pinterest Board – Mehendi Favors.

Also, if anybody wishes to connect with Priyanka regarding any of the above item categories, you can reach out to her at priyanka.presswala@gmail.com She is based in Mumbai itself. She can share actual product pictures with you and you can have a look.

Hey thanks a ton for this post. 🙂
I have been really busy these two weeks with all the half yearly closing office work coupled with completing the pending wedding stuff. These are some really awesome ideas. I finalised my mehendi gift just yesterday – its an wooden jewelry box (in the budget ofcourse) – now i m contemplating what to put inside the box- something which does not add up to the cost- i can just spend 20 rs per box for the addition since the budget is already used up for the box itself…. 20 bucks main if i can find somethin (looking at the options above, i m gonna scout for some mang tikka or cocktail ring- fingers crossed) then its cool or else i ll go with usual sakun ka misri or something.

Hehehe…ya I know, work + wedding planning = one super busy bride to be ! I am on the same boat as you, I am thinking of junking work starting next month and will work on my skin and looking healthy and happy. The dust and pollution in Mumbai is taking away any possibility of me looking like a bride >_< Arey waah, you finalized your mehendi favors. That's awesome. I think woh simple vaale maang teeka mil jaata hai...one big kundan stone with the surrounding small kundan stones, waisa kinds. I had gone to this store where I bought all my engagement artificial jewellery from, he was giving me this chota maang teeka for free..said its not expensive take it, along with the maang teeka that I had fixed. I don't know about Ahmedabad market, but maang teeka is a fun mehendi favor to gift to the guests. Ditto with the cocktail rings...but that could be thoda sa pricey. I think 20 bucks is a challenge almost 😀 I think pretty hair clips, bindis, toe rings or nail paints (might be) possible in that range. Or you could buy the nail art sticker packets, cut designs and keep putting in the box, one packet for like 2-3 guests, and include sakun ka misri with it or something like that.
