One of the most famous markets in Delhi, Lajpat Nagar is perfect if you’re looking for trousseau pieces and in some rare cases, even Bridal wear. Weddings in Delhi are all about the bling, no denying that and if you’re looking for something in ethnic wear be it salwar suit sets, quirky blingy sarees or fusion wear, this is the place to be.
BIG ETHNIC BRANDS IN LAJPAT NAGAR
You can shop all short of ethnic wear here in lajpath nagar. I have recently visited the store and there are quite a few stores that’s worth a mention:
- City Fashion
- Malhotra’s (Upto 50% discount on some semi stitched materials….)
- Hast kala (will get 10% discount all year round) Claims to be wholesaler & retailer.
Apart from air conditioned big retail stores you can also see plenty of shops selling beautiful suite pieces in small open stores. You can really get some killer deal pieces here, but DO NOT forget to bargain. Amar Colony which is walking distance is also a good place to check out for ethnic wear as its filled with wholesalers.
WHERE TO BUY LATKANS, ACCESSORIES, & SUIT SET PIECE
Apart from these there is a lane which is filled with the shops of raw material which can be used to create suite, sarees, blouse, skirt etc… There are few stores where you have laces, latkans all sort of accessories for ethnic wear. Just ask around for where you can get suit pieces and latkans, and the localities will give you the directions. If you are coming from metro towards central market then you can find the lane after 3-4 mins of walk towards left hand side.
Central Market also has a store which can customize latkans according to your color choice. Just visit the store before you start shopping and collect them while going back…I have got 2 customized latkans for INR 299.
CHOODAS, CHOODIS & COLORFUL BANGLES
Babu Chooriwala is the best place to go if you have to buy wedding choodas or generally bangles for your ethnic wear. I had heard about this store quite a lot but for some reason or the other, I always missed locating this store. The same store is also in Chandni Chowk. Its quite famous, so definitely a place to checkout.
They have plenty of chooras in display in multiple colors but still if you want to customize choora with your specific lehenga color, you can get a cutting of the material with same color and he will customize the same for you within 4 days.
The range starts from INR 1100. They were quite strict about no photography but I managed to click some shabby pictures…sneak peek.
I would personally recommend to check out their bangles collection…they have everything from glass bangles to pattern and kadas. So you can pretty much do all the mixing and matching according to your outfits. Handmade kadas are quite a rage these days, and you can get a custom one made for yourself in this store. Its perfect to wear for mehendi or haldi ceremony.
Shop Address: J-10 (Basement) Lajpat Nagar II, Alankar Road – Delhi 24. Tel: 9811118464/011-29835238
FOOTWEAR SHOPPING IN LAJPAT NAGAR
No wedding shopping is complete without buying tons of footwear, from punjabi juttis to wedges, stone studded heels and more…Lajpat Nagar has everything in one place. It makes sense when they are reasonable and one can pair different footwear with different outfits.
The market has street shops and branded stores. So you get everything from a couple of hundreds to thousands.
Kins, Stilettos and Stush are some of the big branded stores here. They have a lot of variety to choose from, and decently priced. But what I love more about these stores is that they even have slings, potlis, wallets and handbags. Kind of like a one stop shop.
There are a bunch of street shop lined together just opposite the shoe stores which are filled with Punjabi juttis, kholhapuri chappals with added colors which are much reasonable compared to the branded stores.
What I loved in Stilettos: I have my eye on a pair of wedges which which had a beautiful peach lace on the top and on the bottom wedge, available in 3 colors (peach, black & baby pink) for INR 1100…there were some beatiful potlis as well in the 1100 range. Definitely worth picking up.
FOR HANDBAGS & PURSES
Street shopping is the best, as the variety is unmatchable. There are 5-6 stores in the Central Market area which have everything from slings, trendy bagpacks, handbags, those big totes and bags, wallets etc. Basically they have everything imaginable.
COMING TO LINGERIE
Off late, bralettes are all over the place, and if you need to do some honeymoon shopping, picking some stunning colors and patterns is a must. Think peek-a-boo styles, neon colors and multi strap bras. They are a must have for any bride to be. Lajpat Nagar is swarming with bralettes these days. From street shops to lingerie stores, everyone has them in zillion varieties and colors.
If you’re a little shy of showing skin, and are not too confident…shapewear is the answer to all your worries. It transforms your body shape brilliantly giving it a natural pleasing curve. Depending upon the quality of the shapewear material, you can pretty much get it in all price brackets.
Few of the lingerie stores have a fitting room, so that’s a plus…but in most of the cases, its just see and pick up. So shop carefully.
RENT YOUR BRIDAL JEWELLERY
Its no point investing 20-30k in kundan jewellery for your wedding day, which you can’t reuse. A lot of stores now give an option of renting the wedding jewellery. Its much better this way. You can get the best of the best at the lowest price possible think 1000 bucks or so, and you’re set for your wedding day.
Esson’s is the best store in Lajpat Nagar to rent bridal jewellery.
Do you know of any good stores or open stalls in Lajpat Nagar?
